Scholarships for Career Online High School

The City of Carlsbad is offering a limited number of scholarships to cover the full cost for adults to earn an accredited high school diploma and career certificate online through Career Online High School. The scholarships are offered by Carlsbad City Library through the Carlsbad Library & Arts Foundation’s Benson Family Trust, in partnership with the California State Library and Gale, part of Cengage Learning.

At a Glance

  • Career Online High School is open to residents of Carlsbad and neighboring communities.
  • Applicants must be at least 19 years of age and have a Carlsbad City Library card in good standing.
  • Applicants who successfully complete an online self-assessment and prerequisite course, followed by an interview, will be considered for enrollment.
  • In addition to a high school diploma, students may earn a certificate in the following areas:
    • Childcare and Education
    • Certified Protection Officer (Security Officer)
    • Office Management
    • Certified Transportation Services (Trucker/Commercial Driver)
    • Homeland Security
    • General Career Preparation
    • Retail Customer Service Skills
    • Food Service and Customer Service Skills
    • Hospitality and Leisure
    • Home Care Professional
  • Students will be given up to 18 months to complete the program.
  • Applicants should go to gale.com/cadiploma to complete the self-assessment.

More Information

Once enrolled in the program, Career Online High School pairs each student with an online academic coach, who provides the student with an individual career path, offers ongoing guidance, evaluates performance and connects the student with the resources needed to master the courses.

 As of this year, the program has eight graduates and an additional six are pursuing their diplomas. The first graduate Career Online High School in Carlsbad is now enrolled in a program to become a dental assistant.
