Carlsbad’s libraries are asking those who have checked out books and other materials to hold onto those items for now. Due to the COVID-19 public health order, all library book returns have been closed.
The library is also suspending all fines from March 15 on so those who miss their due dates don’t have to pay as a result of the closure.
Putting a stop to book returns not only helps reduce the potential spread of COVID-19, it will also allow more library staff to telecommute instead of working onsite. The library is also requesting that for now new books not be delivered from suppliers for the same reason.
The library has created a new web page consolidating all of the online library resources, such as digital books, magazines, research databases and streaming entertainment. These online services remain available to those with a library card, and library cards can be obtained online as well.
Holds and wait lists will remain in place, and materials can be picked up once the libraries reopen.
Book donations are also on hold until the libraries reopen.
Events and program cancellations extended to April 30
The cancellation of Library & Cultural Arts programs and events has now been extended through April 30. Parks & Recreation programs and events are also canceled through April 30, with the exception of the senior meal program.
