Library Offers Curbside Service

All three Carlsbad library locations are now providing contactless curbside service. Community members with library items ready to pick up will be contacted by the library with instructions. 

To reserve a book or other library material, use the online catalog or call the library at 760-434-2870 or 760-602-2049.

Curbside service process

Available Monday-Saturday 

  • Place your desired item(s) on hold in the library’s catalog: www.carlsbadlibrary.org
  • You’ll receive an email or text when your hold is ready for pickup
  • Use the drive-up service to pick up holds Monday through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4:45 p.m.
  • Follow directional signage when you arrive
  • Please stay in your car with your door closed and window up
  • Place ID or library card against the driver’s window so staff can verify your identity
  • Open trunk
  • Staff will signal you when it’s safe to leave
  • Please return items in drop off bins

Book returns

The library's book returns in the parking lots are now open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All due dates have currently been extended until Dec. 31, 2020, though we encourage returns earlier to get more materials out to the community. Holds checked out after June 3 have a six-week loan period. There are no fines accrued between March 15 to Dec. 31, 2020.

Returned items will remain on your account for a minimum of seven days due to the need to quarantine all library materials upon their return. Once the materials can be processed, they will be removed from your account and returned to circulation.
