New Exhibit Opens

2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the passing of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote. Art holds an important place in the history of women’s fight for the vote. Art helped to inspire and unify the suffragists who were dedicated to expanding American democracy. Today, art continues to inspire and stir others. The City of Carlsbad’s Cultural Arts Office presents Four Visions: A Celebration of the Year of the Woman at William D. Cannon Art Gallery showcasing four multigenerational women artists who each bring their own inspiration and vision to their work. The four artists in this anniversary exhibition challenge our assumptions of media by working with traditional, as well as unexpected materials. Many of the pieces are solid and structural while others are ethereal. The exhibit is open now through March 7, 2021 at the William D. Cannon Art Gallery, located at 1775 Dove Lane. Admission is free.

Gallery Curator Karen McGuire commented, “I think it's important to showcase artists who make me look at the world a different way. One of the privileges of being a curator is discovering new artists and bringing their beautiful works to our community.”
