Sew2Care Program

We are all affected by the COVID-19 public health emergency. Since the onset of COVID-19 in March, the city heard from many people in the community about their desire to give back and help the Carlsbad community. Then, when face coverings were introduced as a way to help slow the spread of COVID-19, it was especially encouraging to see messages wanting to donate time and special skills for the cause. It is with your enthusiasm for serving those at risk that the city launched Sew2Care, a volunteer-based program for donating materials and handmaking face coverings.

Since launching the Sew2Care volunteer effort, more than 260 volunteers have contributed to the making and donation of more than 4,150 hand-made face coverings for our Carlsbad community! Thank you for your generous donation of time, expertise and materials!

Through the collaborative efforts of the team at the Emergency Operations Center, the city coordinated and distributed your handmade face coverings to more than three dozen at-risk communities right here within Carlsbad including:

  • Congregate care facilities such as long term, residential and hospice care locations
  • Senior housing complexes
  • Those experiencing homelessness
  • Seniors and other Carlsbad community members

Thank you, Carlsbad!
