Carlsbad recently created a new traffic management center, which enables city staff to observe and adjust signal timing from a remote location. Watch a video about this program.

View the city's new real time traffic map.

By improving the way the city coordinates signal timing, people will be able to drive from point A to point B more quickly, the traffic signal network will be more reliable and there will be fewer delays overall.

How it Works

The new wireless network links the traffic electronics, detection sensors, and cameras to a central computer in the new traffic management center. This enables city traffic engineers to make adjustments to the timing of red and green lights to optimize traffic flow in the city based on real-time data.

Another advantage of the new technology is that it automatically detects traffic signal malfunctions, allowing city crews to perform maintenance, often remotely, to minimize delays.
